How much water should you drink a day?
Water takes part in almost every function of the body — from digestion to regulating temperature. So how much do you actually need?
The general rule
Most experts recommend 2–2.5 litres of water per day. The exact amount depends on your activity level, the weather and your body.
When you need more
- During sport and physical activity
- In hot weather
- When you're ill (fever)
Helpful habits
- Drink a glass of water right after waking up.
- Keep water within reach.
- Don't wait until you're thirsty — sip regularly.
These habits are far easier to keep when clean water is always available.
